Moving house
My friendis currently in a private rented home and is moving out in a few weeks as her landlord is selling up. She is on the council list and waiting for a property. She has seen a house that has been boarded up and has been this way for over a year now and wanted to know if she asked the council if she could move in there what are the rules on that?

Its a Council property and the Council have boarded it up ergo the Council already know it is empty. As the previous poster said, if it was habitable it would be offered to those higher up the waiting list. If your friend calls the Council to ask about the property she will just annoy them.
She will of been made homeless!!! She needs to ensure she can prove this at the council so her application gets deemed as priority. She needs to go to the council as every council is different and get their advice if she feels that they was unhelpful then tell her to ring she needs to know what she can do as waitting lists can be months to years.
As for the house she will have no chance, if it is a council property they are dealing with and then will follow the policys of who is priorty on their list, if they did not do this then that would be unfair and everyone would be looking for empty house's who are on the list.
