Keeping our cat out of the flower beds ?

Hi,

We have recently made some flower beds around the garden and our cat has now decided this is her favourite place to do her business....!
I always thought that cats don't 'do it' in their own garden?

Anyway, what's the best thing to do or use to stop her doing it? My partner wants to put gripper rod there....!!

Scatter orange and lemon peel, cats don't like the citrus smell and won't go there.

Buy some bottles of smelling salts. take the top off and strategically bury them up to the neck. If its the same cats, they'll soon learn to keep off.

it's about time a cat started doing it in their own garden instead of everyone else's!
we don't have a cat but we have 3 who regularly visit and leave their calling card - and you're annoyed about your own cat doing it in your own garden, imagine how annoying it is for your neighbours!!

My advice would be to simply kill the cat. This may seem drastic at first, but think of all the birds which will go on to live full and happy lives. Of the 9 million cats in the UK,one million are feral. Something like 250 million small birds and mammals are taken by cats. Cats, by instinct are born killers, so why have one as a pet? Think about it.

its lucky for the birds that i have cats as my cats just about leave 90% of there food which always ends up on the back lawn

pepper dust is good as well and can be found in garden centres along with other things for keeping cats off areas that you dont want them to use.

Hi parkers I posted this the other day for some one who required info...Garden/C will sell these plants if you get a couple and put then on your flower beds it will stop her.Coleus Casnina...grey/green foliage ...blue flowers in summer....height/spred 60cm...Keep planted in container and move around when required. Pepper dust is ok but if it is windy or raining it has to be done again.Hope this is of some help.I have three cats and they leave my flower beds alone so they work.g.

I have tried the Orange Peel so will see how that works..
Failing that I will try the plants as suggested by garner..
Failing that she will be put on ebay.....

I can suggest two more things to try. 1. sprinkling essential oil onto cotton balls & placing as deterrent - choose the most cat repellent scents!
2. Cover the soil & protect new or small plants by covering with an up turned (empty) wire hanging basket. Take off the chains. Small plants grow up through the basket which supports them & prevents them from being crushed or up rooted. Works as protection from small children & some dogs too.

i am so pleased to hear that your cat is messing in your garden,i think all cat owners should teach their cats this.Why would you want your cat to use someone elses garden to mess in when you dont like cleaning up after your own,imagine how other people feel cleaning up after yours,let the dam cat mess in your garden,its your cat isnt it?

mmmm must admit as a non cat owner (I like cats but prefer dogs) I thought the comment about thinking cats don't do it in their own garden a bit silly too!

I have two dogs and they go to the loo in my garden, I just pick it up and dispose of it wherever it is, can you not do the same with your cat?
