PAT Testing

Hi, anybody know how much you can earn doing this job? Is it salaried or paid by the hour?

Are there any positions available for doing that full-time? Most large companies train one of theor existing staff to PAT test the appliances periodically, it's certainly not usually something full time.

not a lot at all. my husband runs a business doing gauges, calibration and instrumentation, and the PAT(esting) is a tiny element that makes hardly any money for the time it takes and travel involved sometimes.

You could do it freelance (buy the equipment yourself) or work for a company that do it, so its up to you if its salaried or not.

Freelance, perhaps have a minimum call out charge to make it more worth your while, but if you work on an average of �1 per item to be competitive, you're probably in the right area. You will also have to provide a certificate to say it has been PAT.

Salaried, its not highly skilled, so less than �20,000 if thats the sole task involved!

My son does it and hates evry second he works for the greedy money grabbing tight-fisted millionaire boss who expliots the very staff who he relies on. He's only staying to get the 3 months work in tiogo for a morgage then he's job hunting again. Avoid it like the plague unless you like driving hundreds of miles not on pay.

I did a bit part time. First you just dont have to be a qualified electrician, just competence. I contacted local mobile discos explaining that the health and safety guys were really clamping down on untested electrical appliances. Some called for details then I sold my services. �1.50 PER item ( min 10 item). Dont make great money but a nice little earner none the less.
