Dog's ears

Hi all,

I have a Retriever cross who suffers with bad ears at least once a year. He's always given drops from the vet for this and they don't seem to think there is any underlying problem other than his age.

I can't remember the name of the drops (a herb of sorts come to mind), but my question is:

Are there drops available to buy from a shop that I can buy-in so that I can treat my dog on the first sight of it coming back as the Vet charges a fortune just for him to be given the same drops each time?

When we had Shaney I had an ear wash from the vet when he had bad ears and it cost an arm and a leg and was no use whatsoever . He hated having it squirted in his ears too !.
Lankeela advised me get Thornit powder .Brilliant stuff .It dries up the gunge practically overnight .Good for ear troubles in dogs and for other minor ailments .
I got mine from EBay ..about a fiver with postage .Or you can get get it on line .

Lankeela must be doing a lot of vets out of business. She should start charging on here for her advice! ;o)

Just adding that simple consultation with the vet this week cost �30.00 (their standard consultancy charge). And the animal was pronounced fit and well!

I also use quistel ear cleaner which is excellent.....but wonder why the vet hasnt had a proper inspection under GA, as there could be an underlying issue like a polyp or perforated eardrum, in either case, you have to be really careful what you are putting in the ear, and use something that does not contain alochol.

I'd query about allergies. One of the most common causes of chronic and recurring ear disease in dogs is an allergy to something. Bad ears can often be the only sign.
