tax changeover from cherished plate

hellllp, silly hubby went and bought hiself a car over the weekend from a garage, previous owner had his cherished plate removed and new plate put on the car but the tax disc which is valid till 03/09 is still in the cherished plate reg also the m.o.t is still in the cherished plate number, the log book is still on its way back from the d.v.l.a and may be another couple of weeks, can he use the car as when i called the insurance and gave the new plate number it came up with the correct car so it must be registered in the new plate. any help would be very much appreciated x

take the tax disc to your local dvla office along with the mot cert and they should be able to change it to the new reg on your car and that should see you alright.
i have done it by post and it was done within a few days
there is something wrong here,when you change a private plate over,you have to supply the old MOT and tax,to the dvla, and on return you get a new MOT cert and new tax disc i think you need to contact either the garage or old owner,as all new docs would be sent to him.

couldnt agree more norman so i contacted the dvla today gave them all the details and apparently the garage should not have sold it untill new docs were in place, we now have to wait till new tax disc and ot come through before we can use the bloody car. hopefully it will be here by the end of the week. what a pain eh money grabbing garage owner jumping the gun making a quick few grand
