Rag Curls???

I'm just wondering if anyone can help me out with Rag Curls.  I read a whole bunch on the web about how to do them, but I can't do them for squat.  My daughter loves the look of that type of curl though so I figured I would give it a go.  Disaster don't know if I was doing something wrong or not but the hair was falling out and I couldn't keep the ends in the way all the sites warned me to.  So when we took them out some were Shirley Temple and some were Don King  (think thats the guy with the crazy high hair?) all had the little flip thing on the end it was quite horrid. She is only 7 so I prefer nothing heated if there is another alternative to the rags, and obviously no chemicals.

Any help on either the rags, or an alternative would be greatly appreciated.. And Thankx in advance. Oh and I used strips of tattered clothing like old T's etc if that makes a difference.

Hi not sure how you have tried them. I used to have them done as a child. And you may already know but this is how i had mine done. It is best done when the hair is slightly damp 90% dry or just sprayed to dampen it.   Get sum rags 3 times the length of the hair, fold it in half. You then get the piece of hair and hold the folded rag to the top of the hair (your daughter might have to hold in place). Then wrap the hair around the rag. The tightness will depend on how tight you want the curls. Then wrap the other half of rag (which should just be loose) around the already wrapped hair. Tie the two pieces joined together or in a bow. Leave in overnight, when removed just lightly finger separate the curls or they will frizz. Hope this helped. If not there are pin curls but i think they sound harder. Good luck.

buy some of those individual curlers.  They don't have to be hot, but if you put them in her hair when it (the hair) is wet and let them dry in the curlers, the hair shoud dry that way.

Tip: Don't sleep in them.  It will be extremely uncomfortable, plus sleeping on wet hair makes it frizz

Good Luck!

nanner - This brought back memories to when I was a little girl in the fifties & my Mum used to put my hair in 'rags'. I used to want to hide until they were taken out. The result was beautiful ringlets. Bless you Mum.
To help with the ends, use a bit of tissue/toilet paper, fold it over the hair and start the rag on the tissue paper so the ends tuck right in - would agree about the sleeping bit - really painful to sleep in!! But without a heating aid, they have to be left in a long time.
