Laser eye correction.

Is it possible to get laser eye correction on the NHS?

No.
However it's a little known fact that you can have radial keratotomy on the NHS. This is almost identical to laser treatment but they cut the eye rather than laser it.
I saw my GP to ask him to recommend where to go for laser treatment and he told me not to touch it with a barge pole as it's not been around long enough to know the long term effects. He then told me about RK (which the NHS have been doing for about 40 years) and sent me to a consultant. i had both eyes done 10 years ago and it's given me a new lease of life.

you say that your dr told you not to touch them with a barge pole and that you had your eyes done about 10 years ago, i assume then that it was a long time ago that your dr said it, and it has come along way since then. personaly i think your eyes are to precious to mess about with them

Her GP said don't touch laser, so she didn't.

I disagree with your GP mrs Overall.

I know someone who had Laser eye surgery in the UK in about 1987/8.

I'd imagine he regulary prescribes drugs that don't have anything like a 20 year track record

ethel i know what she was saying but im also saying that in 10 years laser treatment has come a long way and so what her dr said 10 years ago, doesnt mean its the same now!

jake, it was actually TWELVE YEARS AGO when my GP said that. I'm simply relating the story of how I came to find out about the NHS op.
I know loads of people who've had their vision corrected with laser treatment and they are all happy with the results.

All I was doing was answering the question and giving an alternative suggestion to paying for laser correction.

If GPs didn't prescribe treatment that hadn't got a track record over many years I think we'd still all be sticking leaches on each other
