Rotavate existing turf?

In the next week or so I'm going to prepare my garden for re-turfing (among other things). I won't be laying the turf for approximately another nine months, so plan on keeping it covered with weed kill blankets in the meantime.

My question is: Can I simply use a rotavator on the existing turf, and let it break down over the next nine months under the blanket, or do I need to use a turf remover before rotavating?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'd spray with Roundup, leave for a month, get the bits you missed and leave until the autumn when the ground will be in prime condition for rotavating and there wont be too many weeds germinating over the winter. Whizz over again in the spring with the r/v, prepare and lay the turf.
