With the release of this camel-humping terrorist guy who no doubt has 6 hairy wives, rapes babies and smells of pig skin, it got me thinking about the IRA.

One recalls the days before PACE (detention times etc) and the ECHR when I am certain the equally odious IRA scum were locked up for just being Irish. The truth always came out in the end. And yes before you moan The Birmingham 6, Guildford 4 and The Renault 5 were miscarriages of justice.

There was not much public outcry from outside Northern Ireland until the infamous H Block hunger strikes et al hit the headlines.

Even then Britain did not back down especially when Baroness Thatcher was at the helm. The only time there was some leniency was the Lord Mountbatten saga, and even then the twin from Roy Castle's Record Breakers was slain.

So my question.

Is the ECHR to blame or have we just evolved in to a more liberal society of recent years?

I am sorry, but any friend of Bin Laden needs 25 years of acid torture, not freedom to cast his utterly evil spells all round the world.

From your link:

Qatada became one of the UK's most wanted men in December 2001 when he went on the run, on the eve of government moves to introduce anti-terror laws allowing suspects to be detained without charge or trial.

In October 2002 the authorities tracked him down to a council house in south London and took him to Belmarsh Prison.

He was eventually freed on bail in March 2005, but was made the subject of a control order to limit his movements.

In August that year he was taken back into custody pending the extradition to Jordan.

So he hasn't actually committed any crime that we can prove - though he has committed a crime in Jordan - a country that uses torture to extract confessions.

So he has been locked up for 2 1/2 years for being a suspect and then bailed on house arrest (and the presumption is that there was no proof of him being a terrorist) and then re-arrested and having to spend another 3 years in prison (since another country famous for its human rights abuses found him guilty in his absence).

But since he is alleged to be a friend of Bin Laden, then it must be true and he must be guilty.
Still churning out the same old cr@p, Wobbly. Your outbursts appear to have been toned down of late and I assumed that my advice to you, re counselling or Samaritans, had been taken but apparently not. Anyway, keep fighting the windmills!!!

Tongue in cheek aside, I strongly believe your last statement makes sense.

Terrorists kill more people than kiddy fiddlers, would you be friends with one of them? I hope not,

He needs to die. And think of the poor camels anuses he obviously abuses. What have they got to do with anti-Israel???

Kill him, that's what I say.

(please note I have not been racist or even religiousist, if that is a word)
Why do you think he is a terrorist?

After over 6 years locked up, the police couldn't find sufficient evidence to charge him, so what proof do you have?

Just look at him.

Cast your liberal attitude aside and apply common sense.

Just look at him for God's sake!!!

And do you honestly believe Bin Laden will be friends with anybody who disagrees with him???

Seriously???
the ira were cowards.simple as that.you would never find an ira man strapping explosives to himself and killing himself and innocent people for the ''cause'' on that you can be 100% certain.........more like planting bombs, giving wrong coordinates and then blowing innocent people up where the security had taken them believing it to be a safe area.i hope every dead ira ''soldier'' is burning fiercly in hell..

Hear Hear Stokie.

And the "families" who protected them with their foul lies.

However, regarding our lovely Al Qaeda cousins, may they be in CHRISTIAN hell with only a pig carcass for company.

If we believe so much in American democracy and willing to engage in illegal wars how is it we don't torture terrorists to gain info that may save lives? This does not mean pulling out toenails or anything barbaric. But sensory deprivation does work. I believe it was used following WWII but was removed in the 70's or 80's.
And all the Billy goats gruff trotted over the bridge of the hideous troll!

For what it's worth I seem to recall a teensy weensy public outcry at our behaviour in NI on the 30th of January 1972. when the brave men of the Parachute Regiment shot and killed 13 unarmed men and boys

Many shot in the back.

This is what happens when Liberals loose control

Northern Ireland now has peace because of a Liberal approach and no amount of reinvention of history on your part can change that - Maggie failed there Blair suceeded

Buy hey that doesn't fit your view of the world so if I were you I'd just ignore it or make some assinine statement like "The Paddies deserved to be shot".
Given that UK was one of the first members of the Council of Europe to ratify the Convention when it passed through Parliament in 1951, wouldn't this have been in force when there was the issue of the IRA?

I had been told legistlation written in this country post 51, had been written with the HR in mind. ( you may know differnt as you have more qualifications than most ABers, do you not)

If that is true how can you blame the ECHR when we were a major architect and driving force.

One of the fundamental issues that makes this country able to prefix with Great, is our long history of human rights/ civil liberties and secular public justice, its what separates us out from those other nasty country's.
