Has anything changed?
I was under the mistaken impression that when Gordon Brown replaced Blair then Britain would decide its own foreign policy. Instead only today Brown is committing extra troops to go to Afghanistan and he said this within earshot of Bush who was satnding on the same platform. Is Bush a hypnotist or something? Why can't our Prime Ministers have some guts?

If we don't follow US foreign policy we will not get access to US intelligence or certain US technologies or Trident etc.
Doubtlessly that was why we went to Iraq in the first place.
Personally I think we should send more troops to Afghanistan - all the ones currently in Iraq!

I agree with your answer Jake about the sharing of intelligence and weapon sharing. But by siding with Bush about the Iraq war and it was probably his decision alone then when he goes his administration behind him will change track and we may look rather stupid.
The USA may have more influence in the world but being allied to a bad regime tars our own credability especially with the incoming President. Triangulation makes us seem weak.
