fiesta fuel problem

i have a 1.25 2000 w reg ford fiesta which sometimes has a smell of fuel when i have full tank what could cause this?

the petrol causes it,make sure the cap is tightly on,and dont spill any down the outside of the neck,when filling up.

Don't fill it up too full as when you go round a left or right hand bend it will spill out depending which side of the car the filler cap is

Filling the tank to capacity shold not be a problem

There is a Vent on all petrol tanks that vents off fumes that build up in the tank, in hot weather or when a half full tank slops about.

When you take the cap off doe's it hiss ? = if so this isn't venting the fumes correctly.

Is the filler cap seal nice and tight ? - Check the cap seal for splits etc.

My advice : Get in to garage and have a look at the petrol tank and the vent pipes.
