How many Godmothers can i have?

I am due to have my first baby in 6 weeks and i am yet to make a decision on who to have as my godmother to my child. I thought about my sister but i then thought she is already going to be an aunty. I am now torn between my cousin who i am close to and a good friend. Can you have more than one god mother? And do you think i should ask my sister as she is already going to play a massive role in my babies life ? Jo x

P.s someone told me its tradition to have 2 godmothers and 1 godfather, anyone heard this before?

yes, thats right. Tradittionally it is 2 godparents of same sex as child and one of opposite sex.

But tbh i think you can have a couple of each and no-one would say anything. Just dont turn up at church with 20 godparents

2 Gmothers & 1Gfather for girl. 2Gfathers & 1 gmother for boy was traditional. The point of godparents is for them to promise the child has a christian upbringing.

Usually its close family ie siblings who are chosen but if they are not available then the net is widened to cousins and friends.

It is a serious responsibility as the Gparents are required to make an oath in church.
