W97M/Ded Question I have floopy disks that have word documents saved and infected with W97M/Ded.
Can you tell me how I can remove the infecection from my documents saved on the disk so that I can open the documents and not affect my own computer.
My PC is not infected its only on these floppy disks taken from another PC.
I am able to find the infected files on my floppy disk using AVG but AVG is unable to remove
it.
I would be very pleased to receive any help

where on earth have you been? - is this one of those came out of a coma after 20 years scenarios ... I'm surprised it is still alive given todays scanners.
.... you are using a virus scanning package?????
the w97 is a polymorph so if you've opened a document ... all the docs on your whole PC are riddled.
you need to copy the files from the floopy to your hdd - scan each file (ensure that you get a resuly for them from the scanner - and then confirm they open OK ... then chuck the floopy in the bun. and burn them to cd so they can't be re-infected

My dad did work on these floppy disks a long time ago. I want to edit his work and put the info onto a CD.
The only SW I have is AVG and adaware. The AVG does see the infection when trying to copy the documents to my HDD but the AVG is unable to heal the infected files.
When trying to copy the files to my HDD i get the following message:-
error copying file or folder
cannot copy Doc2: Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected or the file is not currently in use.
So therefore I seem to be unable to copy the documents to my HDD. Even if I can copy the file I only have AVG to scan them and I know already that it is unable to remove the infection from the document.
Please any more help would be much appreciated
