i push the button on my pc and the fans are not turning on whats wrong with it

fuse blown
PSU in computer blown
Faulty power switch
motherboard blown
power to the house turned off

you probably would have noticed if it was the last one though!

try a different power lead if you can, if it still doesnt work good chance it's the power supply in the computer or the motherboard, impossible to tell which really

true, I was reading between the lines and assuming that by fans not turning on they meant computer not turning on... same way as people say I've plugged my hard drive in and mean I've plugged my computer in :)

Sorry to be a bit dull here, but how exactly do you know the fans are not working in your pc..... have you looked inside the case? Is it overheating? Is it simply not booting up? Does anything come up on the monitor?

i lookked inside the tower and the fans are not coming on what so ever and its not the switch i allready looked at it and put another one in its not that thats why im asking yall its plugged in because the monitor and the speakers etc. are coming on

so is the computer working when you turn it on? and it's just the fan that isn't going?

no its not turning on on the board the green light is on so its getting power but when you push the button nothing happens

The fans don't run constantly as far as I'm aware. Mine aren't running now for example.

stiley ... mine are on constantly .... they slow down and speed up ... but they never go off.

Ksanders - sounds like your 12 v feed might have failed on the mobo connector.

but for a 1 off it's expensive... for a couple of quid more ... you could get a new PSU.
trouble is ... it might not be the PSU
do you have a meter?

what we want is the fan on the processor to come on.

logically
the fans feed from the 12v rail ...
the green light ... from the 5 or 3.3 v rail.

the processor could be coming on ... but because the fan isn't turning it's going critical and cutting off immediately
which is why the green light is OK but nothing else.

to complicate things I've had similar faults where it's been the sound card ... and the graphics holding the voltage down

you could try pulling all the cards CD/DVD/hdd and case fans off the mobo except the processor and fan and see if it spins ... if it does ... reconnect 1 at a time
hdd > graphics > etc.

as a betting man (I'm not ... but if I were you) I'd put in a new PSU (400w)
depending on the age of the machine ... don't get the cheapest - or the most expensive

damn then im not gonna touch it im not gonna go through all that trouble i mean i know alot about computers but im in the military to much work dont have time

with hardware ... unless it's laying on the ground in bits - you need spares - or pots of dosh.

Inside or outside the box?

if outside it's the network card which will be getting power from the network
so just a green herring ....
