Free credit reports online

I often get people like Experian emailing me offering a free credit check. If I take up their offer will the fact that a request to look at my file (albeit my own request) affect my credit rating. My understanding is that rating is adversely affected purely by the fact that someone is enquiring about a particular status.

It's Experian who have your file, so if you apply to them to look at your file it won't affect your credit rating. Checks only affect your credit rating if you are applying for credit, loans, credit cards etc.
