Yes it should go translucent. It does seem to take a while to cook though.
Is it just me or does it taste foul?? Any ideas how to make it more palatable please?
I quite like it Bimbo. I boil it in chicken or vegetable stock.
I'll give that a try, I know it is supposed to be very good for you. Maybe it's the classic of something being better for you the worse it tastes!!
I use it as a *base* carbohydrate - a bit like I would use plain boiled rice, potatoes, cracked wheat or cous cous. None of those carbs have much flavour in themselves but are good at absorbing flavourings from other foodstuffs (herbs and spices, sauces, curries etc etc). I simply add a little salt to the cooked quinoa and serve up with a tasty vegetable stew or curry.

i used the recipe on the pack and it was v nice indeed. gently fry 1 cup quinoa in tbsp olive oil, stir in 1tbsp of lemon zest. after couple of minutes add 3 cups orange juice and stir in mixed dried sultanas or currants or cranberries and simmer till liquid gone. i served it up with smoked trout and it worked really well.
