am I pregnant or is it a tumour?
19 Answers
I recently went to my GP with constipation problems. I have Poly cystic ovaries and hadnt had a period since Feb time. He felt my tummy and thinks I may be 16 weeks + pregnant and asked me to do a test. three tests later and all are positive. I had a scan on my ovaries in Feb and they were clear but I am worried after reading small print that an ovarian tumour could be the cause of the positive result. any advice? I have tried to see my GP but he is fully booked until next week and I am going mad with worry!

Surely the most obvious is the most likely answer? whilst many people get pregnant, many less people get ovarian tumours. If you have 1) been doing sex and 2) have a baby shaped lump in your tummy and 3) have 3 positive pregnancy tests i would say its more likely you are prenant
call your hospital and speak to someone on the EPU (early pregnancy unit) and tell them what youve told us.
If you are 16 weeks then the GP would probably have been able to feel your uterus above the pubic bone. Did he say he was contacting midwives and hospital for you? You should have a scan asap as if you are pregnant they will need an idea of how far gone so you can get correct scans and bloods taken.
the EPU may get you in for a scan and all will be clearer then

I have poly cystic ovaries and I have had two children. Your best bet is to phone the family planning clinic, if you could be 16 weeks pregnant they will more than likely be able to get you scanned in the next couple of days.
The reason she is worried is beacuase she thinks it might be an ovarian cyst which can cause a false positive. I have had ovarian cysts and they can become painful but none have been cancerous. Stop fretting

How about ringing your local early pregnancy unit who may be able to put your mid at rest and organise a scan.

Bednobs, the tumour can cause positive results when shes not pregnant and at 16 weeks, she wouldnt have a baby bump yet.
shivsie, bednobs did raise some good questions though like have you been having unprotected sex, if not, what precautions do you use? If, for example, youre on the pill, could have missed one or been poorly recently?Did you GP mention to you at all about seeing a midwife? Normally you have a booking appointment at 8-10 and, like Jenna said, a scan at 12 weeks. Go to or call yours GP's practice and speak to the receptionist and explain what the docotor has said and she will let you know what happens next regarding the pregnancy ie when you will be seeing the midwife.
