I'm thing of getting my wife a Sat-nav for her birthday. Can anyone recommend any, for ease of use, reliability etc?

I'm not looking for a dirt cheap one necessarily but I don't plan on spending too many hundreds either.

I have a TomTom 1 Europe XL.

not yet needed to use it in Europe, but you never know! I think it's great, large screen, simple to use, loads of extras (find the nearest petrol station, train station, car park, notifies of all speed cameras etc), and good updates from their website.

they seem to have come down in price, and I love mine :o)

Sounds good Sara. I'll bear that one in mind

I don't think we'll need it for Europe, just the UK.

I heard Tom-Tom and Garmin were the two market leaders in this field and wondered which was best.
to be honest, my friend's husband works for TomTom so I got a good deal on just that model. they do the same thing just for the UK. boyfriend has a Panasonic and it appears to be cr*p!

I have no idea when I might it in Europe.. probably never!
this gets asked fairly often on here and every time it does the overwhelming response from most, including me, is TomTom

Sounds good to me Chuck.

Now, how to remove this question before my wife logs in and sees it? :-)
get her one that will get her lost you will have a life of peace lol look on ebuyer and read the reviews ...
if we start a massive argument that will probably get the thread deleted :)

I think it would be me who needed to get lost if I bought her a mapbook instead :-)
