Hi, last night in my garden, I noticed something fly from the grass, quite large maybe a Bee, Wasp or Hornet. Anyway it flew off. I was watching where it flew from and there seem to be more appearing? not as large as the first one. They seem to be coming from the grass, my cats could see them and jumping in the air to catch them. We have a Cherry Blossom tree at the bottom of the garden, this is where the things were flying to. My question is do Bees etc make nest in the grass? I wouldnt mind but the grass is quite low. Thanks

I had a few flying ants yesterday - they nest under the grass, horrid things.

Not aware of ees, wasps or hornets doing so - but that doesn't mean they don't.

Could well be wasps, we have had two lots of wasps nesting underground, our dog used to lay by the hole and catch them as they surfaced.

Bumble bees make their nests in holes in the ground- often disused mouse nests. So if there is a hole there, tht could be it..- the hole may not lead directly in- they often like a tunnel down into the main nest.

They aren't agressive, and will do a great job of pollnating our plants too.. Lots of people would LOVE to have a bumble nest as they are getting quite rare.

However if it is a flying ant nest (black bugs biger than normal ants and with wings), then feel free to boil a kettle and pour it over the nest. Horrible things that will plague you!

Could be a june bug look a paler version of a cockroach with a hard outer shell,prevalent this time of year and live in bushes and trees!

Forgot about bumble bees, that would be so good if it was them.

We get cockchafers in the garden and they 'come out at night'. They are about the size of a bumble bee (possibly a bit smaller).

When we moved in our first house we had two bees nests in our lawn. They moved on the following year so luckily we could use the garden again!

A lot of places now sell bee houses/boxes for both bumble and Mason bees. I have bought one type and intend to buy another for bumbles. If they have a house, maybe they'll leave your lawn alone. It can be inconvenient!

I would've said a May bug (or June bug, depending on the month, eh, puddicat?) They are quite large and whirr around noisily at this time of year. They're harmless, by the way.

Thanks for all your input. Dean that picture made me feel sick lol, I be giving my washing a extra shake when I take it in lol. Dont Cats freak you out when their watching things..
