same as you do with a mouse.

place curser at start of what you want highlighted, hold down left button, move curser to the end and release left button. Then either select copy from the edit menu or right click on the highlighted section and select copy from the menu that pops up.

it's a little more fiddly and you may have to use both hands, one to hold the left button and one to move the cursor when highlighting.
also remember (or learn) the keyboard shortcuts, it is far quicker if you do a lot of cutting and pasting

CTRL + c = copy
CTRL + x = cut
CTRL + v = paste
CTRL + a = Select all

Thanks,if I can keep my fingers untangled I'll try that CF.
A couple more for you...

to highlight a sentence, hold down CTRL and click once anywhere in that sentence.

to highlight a paragraph, point your mouse in the small margin to the left of the paragraph, and double click.

to highlight everything, point your mouse in the small margin to the left of any of your text and triple click!

Enjoy!

I use the trackpad.

Tap the pad and drag my finger across (or down) what I want highlighted, then right click and copy.
