Who makes the best PC?
5 Answers
I have purchased 2 PC's to date. the first was an 'off the shelf' IBM Aptiva (mistake) it was buggy, hard to upgrade and not up to much. The second I bought piece by piece and assembled myself (mistake) I blew the processor and motherboard, fortunately the shop where I bought most of the components from gave me new ones and put it together for free :)
This leaves me with 2 facts:
1. Bundled brand PC's are rubbish
2. I don't know enough about PC's to build my own
I do however have a fair idea about what kind of specs I want my PC to have. So who in the UK makes custom PC's with a broad range of component suppliers, for a fair price?

I have had experience of Dell, Evesham and Mesh who have all been very good. I currently have a value system built by Medion branded LIFE supplied via dabs.com. It's brilliant and dabs are just awesome, their service is amazing. Go have a look what they've got. My machine spec is a bit just yesterday but I bought it from them for 599, 20gb, 1.7mhz. Screen was extra, dabs supplied a flat panel for 200.
dont dismiss all pre-built pc's as rubbish just because you have had 1 bad experience, i imagine that you bought the ibm a few years ago before usb, agp and ieee 1394 which would make it very hard for up grading and connectivity. as malc says there are plenty of well respected pc suppliers as in mesh and evesham although stay away from large high street/retail park chain stores. if you know of a small local shop talk to them explain what specs you need and discuss a price. i wonder why you want a broad range of products, this is not that important of late as cpu's are intel/amd and most shops carry both, ram is ram is ram wether its pc133 or ddr pc2100 you dont need to worry about a brand most hard drives are 7200rpm and many people couldnt tell a good from a bad. graphics cards either a nvidia or radeon *i suspect nvidia* but both only manufacture the chip sets then sell the to a third party so it doesnt matter to much which brand you buy. that then leaves the motherboard try to get one with 8x agp for some future-proofing. hope this helps
