My partner & I have recently put down some slabs in the front garden surrounding them with gravel, before laying the slabs we put down a layer or two of polythene to stop the weeds coming through the gravel but for some reason they are still coming through, how can we prevent this when doing the same to the back garden?

Dont use polythene there is special matting available at the garden centre designed for the job
Hi .. Chances are they are not coming through but the seeds landed on the surface of the gravel and have germinated in situ. A gentle tug will generally solve the problem, failing that a handy weed spray. Remember one little detail .. Mother nature plants more seeds than any man and her plants always survive. I have gravelled most of my garden and do not regret it. Enjoy your easy relaxed weeding regime
