hi all can you help me.ive been recently been told buy my housing officer to turn my music down in the garden because she can hear it.the music was as loud as me watching eastenders in my living room, not at all anti social.can she do this as i thought its the environmental healths job and the police.ive been a tenant for 11years and no complaints against me or my family.another thing tenants in the same row as me and further down have had letters from the same housing officer stating that it is not allowed to drink in your garden and have childrens toys left out.the petty list goes on.this is not in our tenancy agreement.iam i right to think this is against our human rights or is our housing officer trying to be a bully,as she said,i quote well take you to court and proceed with eviction notices.i live on a n estate with 155 dwellings on .have i got a case ?at the moment she is picking on one row .i thought the garden was an extension of your home .hope you can help

Is your garden private or communal? are you barred from drinking all drinks ie pop and water or just alcohol?
Are these local authority/council homes or a housing association? If you think this particular housing officer is abusing her position then you need to speak to someone higher up the chain than her to clarify the situation.

garden is my own not shared
Playing music in your garden can be annoying to other neighbours.
Not because of the music you might play but because its an infringement of their right for peace and quiet.

Why should other people be forced to listen to your music, if they want to relax in their garden.

as i said as lous as your tele not offensive at all and my neighbours havent got a problem its the housing officer being inmature as i said to her .do you listen to music in your garden.no reply or when she haves a bbq do people just drink water?no reply.not partying as im 50 just chillin out catching sum rays
Tetjam,

Its OK you telling people to chill, and **** your housing officer. But if you just want to relax in your garden without any music noise etc, is that a crime?

Its people like you that causes upsets between neighbours with your couldn't care less attitude, as long as it suits you and you lifestyle.
I'm not really surprised that your housing association have told you not to play music in your garden and I don't think you can say that it isn't anti-social. The reality is that noise does not stop at fence boundaries and other people are entitled to enjoy the peace and quiet of their gardens without being forced to listen to your music. Can you not get some headphones and listen to music without disturbing your neighbours? As to your other complaints, it does possibly suggest that your standards may be lower than those of some of your your neighbours and may they are concerned that if one household is allowed to get away with certain practices, it will create a bad precedent for everybody else. If you live on an estate with 150 other houses, some fairly rigid standards of discipline have to be enforced. Quite honestly, if my neighbours played loud music outside in their gardens I'd be complaining too. Most of us have to live cheek by jowl with our neighbours and the only way for relationships to remain amicable is for us all to exercise some consideration.
I've no idea why my last posting appeared like that, but I just wanted to ass that perhaps when when you posted your question as "My Rights", it would have been nice for your neighbours if you had also though about "My Responsibilities".
