So whats the difference between an assignation and a murder?
Is it to do with the importance of the person?

What makes a murder an assassination is a question of motive. If someone murdered an important statesman for some personal, non-political reason, that would NOT be assassination. However, if a rubbish collector who happened to be the leader of some great mass movement (e.g. a civil rights leader) was killed to stop them carrying out their political activities, that would be assassination

An assignation is when you meet someone.

Murder is when you kill them.

Legally speaking there is no difference. If you assassinated someone you would be charged wth murder.

thanks for the replys, but why has it gone down in history that john lennon was assinated rather than murdered? as the chap who killed him was a crazy fan, no?
