hi im 13 , im am desparate for work because i need to get �200 for a school trip which i am keen to visit.

i relise you have to be 14 to work (with exeption of paper round) but would it be so illigal for my mums boyfriend to employ me to his shop , where i could clean , and price products?

If you areemployed on an 'unofficial' basis, then I can't see that there would be a problem. If anyone asks, yoiu can say you are working for free, and he gives you pocket money - if the labour and payment are not connected, then it shouldn't be breaking any law.

Although the law (Children & Young Persons Act) does state that the minimum age for working is 14, local laws usually state that children of 13 can work provided the work is 'light'. Each region has their own bye-laws so have a look on the web site and see what your local bye-laws say you can do. They might state, for instance, that you're only allowed to work 12 hours per week.  I'm sure undertaking light duties in a shop would be ok. Your mum's boyfriend might need to notify his insurance company that you'll be working there so that you're covered.

There are many ways of earning money other than working as you suggest. The most obvious one is to ask your family and friends of your family if they have any jobs you can do for payment, things like household cleaning, gardening, clearing out sheds, washing windows etc. If you live in a smaller comunity you could set up a car wash, but be warned some people can be sceptical about giving money to a teenager, especially one they don't know, so have a parent with you to explain that the money is going to be spent on something legitimate. Have fun and I hope you manage to get on the school trip.

You *can*  work for a member of your family if you are under 14, for a maximum of 12 hours per week and not before 7am or after 7pm on a school day.

Your mum's boyfriend may end up having problems with the Health & Safety at Work Act if he doesn't let the local authority know that he is employing you.
