The plain fact of the matter is this: Why are you wanting to withdraw your statement ? Does it contain a pack of lies ? Or is it because you are under some threat from the accused ? Or are you acting out of sympathy for the accused ? If it is that your statement is nothing more than a pack of lies then you are laying yourself open to a charge of perverting the course of justice (which carries a sentence of imprisonment). If it is because of some threat made against you or any member of your family or witnesses acting on your behalf, whether implied or expressed by the accused, then you are entitled to protection under the law and the accused becomes further liable by issuing those threats. If it is because you are acting out of sympathy for the accused then you might be deemed to be wasting time and, again, render yourself liable to punishment under the criminal code.
