I used to watch a cartoon film when I was young that I think was probably made in the mid eighties.

It was a film about a young slave who worked in mines with his family and friends and his girlfriend. She was killed by the bad guys as they tried to escape up to the surface. Can't remember much of the plot after then but he had a fight in a swamp with some robots who used real body parts as part of their own bodies but he fought them off with a sword which had an invisible blade.

does anyone know the name of this obscure cartoon film... I think it was of european orgin.

Sounds like "Starchaser: the Legend of Orin" I used to get it from the video shop about every other week, because my brother and I thought it was cool! My favourite character was called (I think) Dag, he was a spaceship pilot who I thought may have been very loosely based on Han Solo. He had a talking spaceship.

you truly are a god of obscure cartoon knowledge. Yes that guy was like Han Solo! My brother and I got it out the video shop nearly every weekend. ahhh happy memories!!!

Many thanks

I'm proud to say that I still own that film and watched it about 8 months ago for the first time in about 15 years.  It hasn't aged at all!!  Such a classic!

PS - The Han Solo type character is called Dag Dabrini.

And its available to buy on Amazon - but only on video
