My partner and his ex split up in January. His Ex says she is taking over payments of the mortgage in September.(Up till now he has been paying half of it, because she cant afford it)
He as no paperwork just her word.
I want to know the steps to this process so I can put my mind at rest that it is bing done correctly.
Will my partner incure any cost from this process?
Is there anything my partner should be doing to get his name off because he just seems to be leaving it to the Ex. (who I dont trust)

To get himself removed from the Mortgage he will have to get the lender to agree. They both will have to cooperate with the lender for this. They will only do that if they are satisfied his partner qualifies for the mortgage off her own bat or perhaps with a new partner if she has one. If they agree then as a condition they will insist he is removed as part owner from the land registry entry, this will cost but not much. The lender will probably also charge a fee.
My wife and I took out a joint mortgage before we were married when we were only living together. After we were married I phoned up our mortgage lender and asked them to change her name on the mortgage to her married name. They wanted 200 to do it, although to be fair they also said it was completely unnecessary as the name on the agreement was merely a means of identification and it wasn't important that she'd changed it by marriage since then. They advised us not to change it and so we didn't and it's still in her maiden name.

All of which is starting to go off topic. Point is that even just to change the name on the mortgage, supposing the lender is agreeable to a single person on the mortgage is likely to cost a significant fee.
