I agree twenty20. I've asked several times why posters want a bank address for a sort code but I don't think I've ever had an answer. If you have a query about a payment you might as well ring a call centre in New Delhi than go into the branch

If I found your details and had your account number already, it would be possible to perform a fraud with your details, bank account number, sort code and now address.

But the fact remains that the sort code/branch directory is freely available information, and if people want it they can have it.

It is not some great secret.

Uzoma- you can see someone's sort code and account number on a cheque- that's always been the case. But what has your observation got to do with the question posed by hroberts ?
