Odour eaters

Do odour eaters like febreeze actually work? Could anyone reccomend any that work well at getting rid of nasty smells around the house such as fag smoke etc?

Fabreeze smells lovely but then no-one smokes in our household.
scented candles - they come in lovely varieties
oil burners work well
