Did I imagine this tinned pasta treat from my childhood, or did it really exist. Im unable to find any trace of it on internet archives or anywhere else!
No you didn't imagine it, I loved it, and for a while refused to eat anything other than Noodle Doodles and mashed potato. I remember a blue tin, and it was just pasta shapes in tomato sauce - they still do something similar in Tweenies or Teletubbies or various other shapes. In those days though it was pretty innovative! I have been trying to think when they would have come on the market, I am guessing mid to late 70s when I would have been 11 or 12.
I even remember the lyrics (to the tune of 'Yankee Doodle) - "Noodle Doodle went to town with lots of Heinz spaghetti, twisted them around around around now this is what you getty. Noodledoodledoodledoodle railway trains, noodledoodledoodledoodle houses, nooodledoodledoodledoodle aeroplanes, Eeeeeeeeeeeeeek! Noodle Doodle mouses!" Closing phrase: 'They're everyone's favourite foodle'.
I think you will find the lyrics are:-
"Noodle Doodle went to town with lots of straight spaghetti, twisted it around and round and this is what you getty - Noodle Doodle motor cars, Noodle Doodle houses, Noodle Doodle butterflies, eek, Noodle Doodle mouses."
I thank you.
The version I remember is different again...
"Noodle doodle doo bumper cars,
Noodle doodle doo houses,
Noodle doodle do choo choo trains
and EEEK noodle doodle mouses!"
(Just stumbled on this thread trying to find a video for it!)
I Remember the song going: I'm the noodle doodle man. yes the noodle doodle man. i take spaghetti and i doodle cars and boats and ships and goats, i'm the noodle doodle man yes the noodle doodle man.
