Hi, my son attended his prom at a local Country Club last night and handed his jacket plus wallet and phone in to the cloakroom...I know stupid of him!!!!! Anyway the coat was picked up by a teacher as my son left in a rush, when my son collected the jacket from school this morning the wallet was missing.....though his phone was still there. Just got off the the phone to the CC they were really snotty with me saying 'how dare I accuse a member of their staff of theft'....am waiting for a call from the manager. Any advice? Apart from killing my son!!!!

firstly, cancel any cards he had in the wallet! Just in case.

Chances are the club have something written up explaining about items being left at own risk so not sure what you can do about the item having gone missing.

Has the teacher checked to make sure it hasnt fallen out in the car or anything? Did you ask the club to look or did you say it had been stolen?

Thanks for the speedy response!

Luckily the only card he had was his Oyster. The school have phoned the venue as well.....When I rang them [the venue I asked if it had been handed in....they said they'd get back to me. When they did they said it hadn't been found, I asked them what the next step was and that's when they got snotty about me accusing their staff!!! Not sure what to do! Put it down to experience????

well id be a bit miffed if i were you and hadnt even mentioned theft and been told off for accusing them. Itd make me suspicious too, but thats me.

Write to them outlineing your conserns and asking them to investigate. Ie who was on duty and have they asked them if it was found. Sometimes they look in the lost property box... no nothing there and that's it. but if the person in the cloakroom was in a rush going home it could have been put anywhere.

I know as this has been done in the place I worked.

They may have become defensive because they know they have a tealeaf in there midst.

If all else fails go in to speak to them... They don't like talking to people in the flesh as it is far easier to do nothing over the phone.

Just spoken to the manager [turns out we know each other from years back... lol]
He is going to see what he can do he admitted...
No CCTV
Cloakroom left un-attended for toilet checks [same lady does both]
4 phones were stolen last night as well!!!!

He's going to talk to his boss and get back to me tomorrow....hopefully this cloud will have a silver lining.

Thanks for your replies

at least you know that its not been mislaid then. But your son must be a bit embaressed that his phone wasnt worth nicking, oh the shame lol

I hope they get it resolved or at least notify the police of these thefts.

Oi....lol....he's got an I-phone I'll have you know....lol The phone was in a zip pocket inside....maybe this stopped a thief with little time? Wallet was in an outside pocket.....
Only thing he has to be embarressed about now are the pics his mates have put of him on Facebook ;O}

Has the wallet fallen out of the jacket pocket into the teachers car?
Question Author
Hi Annlinda....we went through all the options before contacting the club.
Sat the little idiot down and talked him through his evening....he definately gave it in. Teacher has checked her car. We were hoping it would have been found at the cloakroom...but no!
Just have to wait and see what the club has to say today....fingers crossed!

Similar thing happened to my son although it was just a leather jacket. Claim on your household insurance and they will recover what they can from anyone held to be responsible. Don't get involved in any arguments, not worth the upset.
