Grubby carpet

I have an area of carpet by the front door which is continully grubby. I have tried squirty cleaner and scrubbed it with neat washing powder and then rinsed etc. Is there anything else I should try before getting the professionals in? It looks better once I have cleaned it, but the dirt always seems to resurface. I can't put a mat over it as it is where the front door opens into the living room. Thanks

Put a mat outside the front door and a small
mat inside ..we do this and it works ...
what's wrong in having a small washable
mat in the living room ?

Maybe you need a thingy (kind of angled metal attachment) at the bottom of the front door. Someone here will know what I mean
