If you damage something outside a shop are they liable for the costs. My trousers ripped on a piece of metal that was raised off the ground outside a tesco store and I want to know if they will give me the money for the trousers (i only got them last week).

Typical no win no fee money grabber. Just buy a new pair of tousers & watch were your goin next time
If it is on their land they are responsible. But you would have to go through a long winded process of applying to get money from them (and that is only if the piece of metal was not supposed to be there). I agree with the above, learn from your experience and keep your eyes open!

absolutely not, I work in a job where by people ask for 'compensation' all the time and i find the whole thing ludacris, I was just interested to find out where, as a consumer you stand on these kind of things. and yes, i will watch where i am going next time.
Well, I have to disagree with these two humbugs. I had a long coat on and I went through those revolving doors at Asda and my coat went under it. It sounds really funny but it was scary at the time...it nearly dragged me under the door like a cartoon haha! Anyway my coat was all ripped, I took it to the customer services and she said they would get it dry cleaned and I was like hm well a dry clean won't fix it and she filled out a little form, two days later I got a letter asking me to take the receipt for the coat into Asda. I took the receipt and they gave me the money there and then, and they went through the motions...yknow big apology and they'll do something about it. They havent got those doors anymore so I probably made them get new ones lol! Oh, and it wasn't an Asda/George coat. :-)
