Proud to be from Somerset

Villagers from Hinton St George in Somerset have handed in a petition to 10 Downing Street about the closure of rural post offices. Chanting the village's 400-year-old "Punkie Night Song" which they sing in a candlelit procession every October to ward of evil spirits. Also equipped with mangle wurzels.

What a way to protest. Folk from Somerset certainly know how to apply the political pressure.

How can Aber's fear for the loss of British culture when there remains alive and kicking such traditions.

sigh... they've closed our sub-PO as well. I don't think we have any local ditties to sing at them, however, let alone any wangle murzels. Maybe there's some druid round our way who could cast a spell, but I suspect not.

We did quite well years and years ago when the council was threatening to withdraw funds for music teaching at jno jnr's school - had the whole school band marching round and round the town hall playing their trumpets, like Joshua. The council backed down.
