I'm always amazed to see the expensive dress of guests at weddings when their presents are mean. I think it should be the other way round.
Newly-weds need money to start their lives together and I would give them as much as I could spare (or would have spent on a new outfit) and wear something cheaper/borrowed/hired.

hi sally . i asked for wedding list but was told cash was what they wanted as they are really skint ( both have ex`s and kids, some living with them) they have lived together for 4 years so have all household things they need , i did think about phoning local restuarant and saying i would book and pay for a meal for them while my hubby did driving for them and i did babysitting but im not sure if that constitutes a wedding present or not lol
For one of my friends weddings we all chipped in for a Honeymoon suite in a local hotel and secretly arranged for their families to have their kids for the night. They were made up with it and it only cost us about 30 each (including extras to decorate the room for them like ballons and rose petals etc). If you know oithers that are going, it could be an idea to chip in for something like this - unless they are gettinmg married in a hotle in which case please ignore this advice.
Cash seems so impersonal somehow.
When I got remarried 2 years ago we both had lots of stuff as well as 4 kids between us and just asked for John Lewis vouchers but only if anyone asked what we would like.
We bought a TV with the vouchers and the cash was put towards Pickles the puppy!!
When we wrote thank you's we sent photos of her and amused a lot of people. She's here with me on the bd now and I couldnt wish for a better present!
