Where's good to go in Turkey?

Hi, looking to go for anniversary end of April 09, though may go later in year. What's temp like April / May, compared to Sept? We want somewhere that's got stuff to do, but not really touristy. It'll be for 2 adults. Thanks

I go in May and the weather is warm and sunny.

The weather is exactly the same in September. It is very very hot in July/August.

There is the chance of the odd shower in April, but will still be plenty warm enough in the day, but be cool at night. May is better, because the trips to places don't really start until then.

I love going to Turkey. Most places are touristy now, but try and visit Kusadasi and the Ephesus, as well as the beautiful natural salt springs at Palmakkale.

I agree with Grommit, you can't beat Dalyan. If you've got the time a trip to Cappodocia is well worth doing. The landscape is amazing. It's a bit colder inland than the coast and you would need a light jacket in the evening. Antalya is also lovely although probably not Lara anymore as it looks very touristy now from the brochures. The city itself has some good accommodation in the old town, near Hadrian's Wall.

Beware Marmaris. Very popular but very touristy. I don't like it.

Bodrum's not too great either, if you don't want the crowds, but go a few miles inland, and the scenery's fantastic..where they're not building yet more hotels and apartments!

We went to turkey early May this year weather was lovely sunny days but quite chilly at night . Flew to antalya and stayed near side . This part of turkey is almost opposite Cyprus and is a bit warmer than the dalaman region at this time of year.

Kas on the Med coast is lovely, with lots to do if you want an active holiday.

It depends what you are looking nku for but Istanbul is a fabulous city - especially if you like history and culture. There are so many places of interest to visit and many of them are quite breathtaking.

A visit to the Hagia Sophia church/mosque/museum which was built in the 530s is a must. There is also the Blue Mosque and the Suliemaniye Mosque where you can visit the graves of Sulieman the Magnificent and his fascinating wife Roxelanna.
The Grand Bazaar is a wonderful place to explore. It's a covered shopping centre of 80 streets with 3,500 shops and kiosks. It opened in 1461 and it was the largest undercover shopping centre for 600 years. Many of the shops have been owned and run by the same family for centuries. There's also the Spice Bazaar and the Animal Bazaar.
A visit to the Topkapi Palace is unforgettable. The highlights are the Harem as well as the Treasure Room where you can see the breathtaking Jewels of the Ottoman Empire. One set of rooms has many relics of the Prophet Mohammed on display such as his cloak, staff, bow, whiskers etc. That's a fascinating and moving area to visit and be amongst awe-struck Muslims.
You can also cross the Bosphoros on a ferry to Asia and enjoy lots of walks around the city, along the Golden Horn and along the Bosphorus. The Turkish food is superb too.

Hope that helps but it does depend on what you are looking for. If you want a beach resort where they all speak English then maybe Istanbul isn't for you. But if you like history, culture, exotic sights and smells then you'll love it.
