why is it that everytime i meet an off road vehicle on the road they never actually go off the rd but force me to??

Usually because they're driven by mums on the school run and we all know that women aren't too hot on spacial awareness, hence they can't reverse the damn things either.  (Hope you're not female, no offence intended to anyone who reads this.)

I can't abide these damn things - when they are in front of you you can't see around them or over them, and the closest they get off road is negotiating Sainsbury's car park: and owners saying they bought them for safety reasons is spurious in the extreme - there are many saloon cars who have obtained higher NCAP ratings than these Chelsea Tractors.

 

Horrible ugly machines - as the old joke goes, what's the difference between a hedgehog and a 4x4? The hedgehog has the pricks on the outside.

I own a 4 x 4 for work and a car, I agree skids that quite a lot of women drive these machines with a lack of spacial awarness and therefore have to be far over to the right! As for safety I think both have disadvantages and advantages, though I would not swap a 4x4 for a car only. Maybe if you were not driving 1" from the bumper it would be possible to see all around the vehicle. I don't have that problem in the car with other 4x4's.

I drive a 4x4 but it amazes me that no1 else gets off the road like i do- even men!

I certainly find it difficult to see properly from behind a Range Rover or X5, no matter how far away from it I drive. They DO most definitely restrict the view from the vehicle behind.
