Plastering puzzle

I had my ceiling replastered about 10 days ago. It dried within a couple of days in what is an averagely centrally heated room, but a long hairline crack has now appeared, stretching nearly all the way across. I rang the plasterer, who blamed it on "false drying" on account of the central heating and said that if I paint over it it won't show. I'm not so sure. Is he taking the michael?

This happens quite a lot with new plaster,a coat of paint should do the trick.

it is called a shrinkage crack and is unfortunately almost unavoidable. filler and paint will fix it. no point going after the guy.

When this happened to our ceiling, we were told it was because our central heating had dried it out too quickly, so we left it at that. A couple of coats of paint soon covered it over though. Good luck.

Are you talking about a skim coat over new plasterboard?  If it is new plasterboard what size sheets were used and what size gaps were left between the sheets?
