Italics = Viruses??
7 Answers
Seems that the site is abused by italics and other content. That isnt such an issue but the theory lately by some members is that people are abusing it by using some HTML commands in their usernames. In some severe instances HTML can be used to spread Viruses/Trojans and other malicious content just by viewing the site it is placed within, and is one of the reasons why BB Code was invented for forum use as a universally safe alternative to allowing HTML commands to be used.
Not only do I think you need to quickly close this loophole as it is annoying members of the site, but some form of explanation on it would be appropriate, particularly if there is any chance at all of a security risk or a risk of anything malicious ending up on our computers through the use of Answerbank.
I personally dont think that hackers could exploit this issue to any great concern and we are all probably safe, but having said that, as your security and ability to deal with site abuse appears poor (not even an IP filter) from a front end users point of use, it does give cause for concern that there could be more to this loophole (if it does indeed misuse HTML) and other security lapses.
