a solution of water and vinegar is pretty good as the vinegar will remove the mildew and stop regrowth for a while. do not make it with too much vinegar (ideally 50 parts water to one part vinegar) mix otherwise the vinegar smell will linger.

alternatively you could use any citrus fruit as the acid in the juice will cut through the mildew and should leave a pleasant smell.

Would this be mythical midrew or legendary mildrew? If you don't believe in it, it should vanish...

Apart from the occult, mildew is a growth of funghi or spores, from damp. Good old mother nature fighting back.
But any of the above cures are worth a try. We used an old nail brush, dipped in bleach, which worked. Not sure if it was the best though.
