2. no, why would they?
3. I'd expect so - most if not all UK debit cards issued now are chip and pin.
Not really much else to tell. Swipe your card, cunningly type PIN into handset making sure that the countless thieves around you don't see your number & the money disappears faster than you can earn it. Welcome to grown ups world :(

For question 2, everyone does this all the time so don't worry about it.
Your parents / grandparents probably still moan about it because it used to take ages in the old days of manually filling in slips and signing them, but these days it's quicker than counting out the cash.
Not only that, but if you need to spend 6 and withdraw 10 in cash instead of using your card, it's amazing how quickly the other 4 disappears on 'essential purchases' !!

I don't know if it's common but if banks wanted to impose a limit on the amount spent on a solo card they could, more so on a Solo card where every purchase should go through the authorisation process. I know that some banks limit the number of transactions per day to about 10 before they become quite strict about what they authorise. Anything more than that arouses suspicion of fraud.
Again, it may be that no-one actually implements it but it'd be very easy for banks to offer this monetary limit on card purchases as a "feature".
This is taking the conversation off at a bit of a tangent but I think the question(s) originally set has been answered.
