Any idea what a letting agent would look for when they ask a bank for a reference? Would a huge overdraft matter or is it just to make sure a regular salary goes in?

The Bank won't tell the letting agents any details of your account or overdraft.

What they usually do is give their opinion as to whether they think you are 'good' for the amount of the monthly rent.

Thank you. That's OK then, we both work full time and our salary goes into the bank, but we have a overdraft and loans and sometimes feel a bit over indebted. Be paying most off next year with pension lump sum than goodness.
