My Mother in law went to Belgium to have a gastric band, costing her about 2,500, not including flights and subsequent aftercare including fills.
It's not a decision to be taken lightly, as most of the people she seems to know who have had it done have had some post-op problems of one form or another.
However, having said that she is now (3years later) half the weight she was, and is able to do so much that she couldn't do before.
Good Luck, hope you get the answers you are looking for!

Hi all,
Gelda, can I just say that if it was as easy as eating less and exercising more, why would anyone put themselves through this. Have you ever had a weight problem?
I have recently had a gastric band fitted as I see it as my very last chance for a healthier life.
I knew about all the complications etc, but you have to decide if its worth the risk of dying during the op, or dying early through overweight.
If anyone would like first hand info, do please ask.
