Do my children need passports?

Children who were included on a passport before 5 October 1998 may continue to travel with the passport holder until the child reaches the age of 16 years; or the passport on which the child is included is replaced; or an amendment results in the issue of a new passport.

I would guess perhaps when it comes to flying it varies between airlines, best to check their Ts & Cs to be sure...to be sure :D

From Northern Ireland Tourist Board

For UK nationals a passport is not strictly necessary but photographic identification is required. Check with your airline/ferry company as requirements vary.

For immigration purposes - no.

For security purposes - again no, if they are travelling with an adult no ID of any sort is normally required.
