Why won't online sellers take Electron cards?

I don't have a credit card and I don't have a current account. All I do have is a very long credit blacklist, so all I've got is an Electron card linked to my basic bank account (which doesn't have an overdraft facility). I'm sure there are thousands (if not millions) of people out there in the same situation, so why won't some online sellers let me buy from them using Electron? Does it cost them more or something?

Retailers pay a fee for the electronic authorisation of cards. Since (unlike normal Visa cards) all Electron transactions require electronic authorisation, many (possibly most?) online traders won't accept them.

An alternative, which may suit you, is to use a pre-paid card:
