the leaves on a tree do not turn brown but stop being green???? I am sure I heard it some place. Thanks

After the leaf has fallen, you can see a shield shaped scar on the twig where the barrier is. You would be right to say the leaf stops being green. (I think, somebody with more knowledge than an ex primary teacher may confirm!)
