ok i have two ways of getting from Rushden to Luton airport. I can get the A45 to northampton and then the M1 to luton or I can got to bedford on the A6 and then on to luton going by bedford is 12 miles shorter than avoiding towns and going by the A45/M1 but is 12 miles going to compensate much in time considering I have to get around beford (I beleive there may be a bypass will have to check) and it will be 6:30 pm when i hit bedford

The bypass only goes round Clapham, you would have to go through the middle of Bedford. However, by 6.30 most of the traffic will have gone and the southbound route of the one way system is a straight road, so shouldn't be a real problem. I would say by the time you had got to the M1 J15 (if you went that way), you would be into Bedford. The new Wilstead bypass south of Bedford is effectively open and I don't know of any other holdups, so I would say go the A6 way..its pretty straight forward.
