It's a song about a teenager in love with his girlfriend. He entered a race, hoping to win some cash to buy her a wedding ring, but sadly crashed the car. Just before he died, his final words were: "Tell Laura I love her".

Ahhhh ....... It'd bring a tear to a glass eye, that one.
