My Granddaughter is working as a waitress for a city restaurant, and she works evenings, sometimes till after midnight when the last bus has gone.
What i want to know is Does her Employer have to provide transport (taxi) home for her and any other employees that work late. It is costing her 3.50 a night to get into work and 5 to get home and i say they should susidise the cost of getting her home
Thanks for any help

The only times I've ever been paid to get home from work were...
In a 9-5 office job (PA in a law firm) where, if I stayed til very late (say after 11pm) to help on a corporate job then the firm would pay for a taxi home.
When I worked in a central London law firm where I'd often be in around 7.30am, on a usual day work til 8/9pm but often be there til 12/1am.
If we left after the last tube at 11pm we would get a taxi on account for safety reasons and because we were working such long hours for the firm without proper breaks.

Hi Bob - I just asked my brother your question as he owns and runs a restaurant, he says it's the norm round there for the restaurant to pay for a cab if there is no alternative transport, but he takes the fare out of tips pot. He says he feels responsible for making sure they get home ok at that late hour but then I said I think he's mean for taking it out of their tips. He thinks it's a fair compromise! Not sure if that's any help to you!
